Tzadeka is Maigan van der Giessen, an Edmonton based MC who has been pushing the boundaries of hip hop music since putting out her first album with hip hop collective Eshod ibn Wyza in 2003.  Maigan’s spicy vocals and intricate rhymes blend with DJ Madame Wangs masterful beat-making to create a sound that is distinct and fresh; with hints of jazz, soul world fusion, blues and everything in between.  Together they have released two solo albums under the name Tzadeka (meaning a righteous woman), and have taken part in numerous other side projects that highlights their diversity and creativity.  Tzadeka has opened for the likes of K’Naan, Kinnie Star and ?uestLove (of the Roots), and played at the Western Canadian Music Awards 2008 Urban music showcase, and many other local and National conferences and festivals.

Maigan is an artivist, mother and youth worker working in Edmonton’s inner city.  She is a music and art workshop facilitator, event promoter and mentor.  Madame Wang is a local DJ/Producer, visual artist and founder of the infamous local record label, Little Whore records.
